Education, Culture and Sports Department of Riga City Council in cooperation with the Riga Center of Education and Information is implementing project with the financial support of the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals (75%) and Latvian state (25%). The duration of the project is December 5, 2014 – June 30, 2015.
The aim of the project “We are Rigans!” is to develop qualitative adaptation programmes and activities for third-country nationals, thus ensuring access to services and support integration process of newcomers with different cultural, religious and ethnic origin in a form of mutual dialogue.
Riga municipality is planning to conduct charge-free Latvian language and culture courses for third-country nationals pupils of Riga schools and adults.
The following additional activities are foreseen within the courses: visiting museums, theatres, Riga municipality institutions, as well as excursion and other creative activities. Meetings with the representatives of Riga municipalities are envisaged within the project in order to get information about the services and events provided by the municipality.
Two events aimed at the exchange of experience are planned to the regions of Latvia: Kurzeme and Latgale and meetings with the representatives of municipalities and non-governmental organisations. The participants of these meetings will get information about integration processes taking place in the municipalities visited as well as with the support measures available for newly arrived inhabitants of Latvia, as well as the acquaintance with the historical and cultural objects will take place.
The project activities envisage the involvement of volunteers. Volunteers of the project will have opportunity to participate in all events of the project and to help in their realization. Additionaleducationalactivitiesforvolunteerswilltakeplace.
At the end of the project educational excursion will be organised for participants of the project, those who will have successfully finish Latvian language courses and who will have actively participated in the meetings with the representatives of municipality.
Informative material will be created as the result of the project containing useful information for newly arrived inhabitants of Latvia.
Third-country nationals are nationals of any other state except of the European Union, European Economic Zone (Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein) and Swiss Confederation.
